Secret Hidden Bookcase – Door

Part 1

In today’s episode of HewTube, we’re making another hidden bookcase! This one was built for a client which means I had to make a real plan and make sure this thing fit in place when it was delivered. No second chances this time! Part 1: We’re making the bookcase carcass and I decided to add a hidden compartment on the fly! This idea came to me as I was going through the introduction of the video and you can see the moment of epiphany! Part 2: I’m installing some heavy duty wheels (2700lbs rated) on a massive piece of angle iron. We’re also using 4 of the beefiest SOSS hinges to make sure this thing swings properly when it’s fully loaded with books! Part 3: Is all about the face frame and stain. There’s a lot of tricky cuts with this design as the casing needs to move with the bookcase when it opens. Part 4: We figure out how to make the latching mechanism work and we cut up a copy of The Da Vinci Code to use as the secret book!
