Cedar Canoe from Polyester Resin to Epoxy
1 min read
This video shows the start and finish of a cedar strip canoe. The visual and structural differences between polyester resin to epoxy resin are evident and obvious in this video. The strength and finish of Epoxy is far superior to polyester, and since the material costs are the same you may as well use a better more durable resin system.
Years of use and UV damage have caused some of the old fiberglass resin (polyester) to delaminate, and the resin application is thick, non transparent and heavily textured. Epoxy is completely transparent, more strength, more impact resistance, smoother application and more UV stability. The canoe was also marine polyurethane varnished, spray applied 4 coats on the hull exterior.
