today’s topic
the VA disability versus Social Security
how do they affect each other VA
disability offset Social Security or
vice versa
down here on my YouTube channel eight
days ago I did a video a VA disability
combined pay VA versus Social Security
and what that was focused in on was the
combined pay that you’ll receive with
the upcoming Cola changes cost of living
adjustments but since I did that video
I’ve had a couple of comments asking me
hey Brian can you explain the difference
between VA disability and Social
Security Disability as far as offsets is
there any how does it affect us well I
lose my VA will I lose my Social
Security but how do social security
benefits work what types are there let’s
find out
most people tell you there’s four type
of Social Security benefits retirement
disability survivors and supplemental
security income but I’m going to throw
in Medicare as well because it’s Social
Security that enrolls you in original
Medicare part A and Part B so those are
the benefits that come out of the Social
Security Administration but today we’re
going to only going to focus in on three
of those retirement disability and
supplemental your ssrb we’re going to
call it Social Security retirement
benefits Social Security disability
insurance and supplemental security
Insurance SSI let’s get to the first two
Social Security retirement benefit and
Social Security disability insurance
that’s real simple they don’t affect
each other VA disability is an unearned
income it does not affect
ssrb or SSDI
I’m gonna use myself as an example I’m
100 PMT when I get 62 years old I’m
gonna start drawing Social Security ssrb
if I thought I was eligible for
disability insurance on the Social
Security program I would have to apply
separately that’s a process once you go
through that the Social Security
Administration determines whether you’re
disabled under their rules or not you’re
either all the way disabled or all the
way not
want to use myself as another example I
had to file for Social Security
disability insurance when I was retired
from the federal technician program I
worked for OPM the office of personnel
management retired on a disability it
was mandatory that I filled out the
paperwork and filed for Social Security
disability insurance upon retiring I was
denied the reason is I can do things
like I’m doing right now sitting in
front of this camera talking to you I’m
earning I don’t know anywhere from 50 to
100 a month now on YouTube thank you
very much like And subscribe please it
helps every dollar counts these days
but that’s how I do know a little bit
about social security disability but my
VA check in no way shape or form is
going to affect that paycheck if I were
to get it
and vice versa if I get Social Security
disability insurance it doesn’t affect
my VA disability paycheck
but let’s move on to the only one left
supplemental security Insurance SSI
they affect each other
yes well I’ll put it like this SSI does
not affect your VA check it could be the
other way around your monthly VA
disability check albeit it’s unearned
does not matter in the eyes of Social
Security Administration SSI does not
matter whether it’s earned or unearned
if you see the board behind me it says
situational what does that mean I
literally called the Social Security
Administration this morning you know why
because I am not and Social Security
expert I don’t claim to be I don’t claim
to be an attorney either don’t want to
be
but if I have a question regarding
Social Security like I did today because
I’ve only got a couple more years and
this is going to start playing into my
finances
so I got on the phone I called the
Social Security Administration let me
show you how I did that whatever device
you’re using you type in ssa.gov it
brings you to the home page you scroll
down to the bottom it’s going to say
contact us you click on that button this
page pops up you scroll down to the
bottom it’s going to say call us
once you reach this page if you look
about halfway down it gives you the
national number but look up your office
locator that’s going to be your local
Social Security office this page pops up
you simply enter your ZIP code click
locate and it’ll give you the local
number to your Social Security
Administration I called my local office
this morning and it was very interesting
like I said I’m not the expert on social
security so I had to call the experts
and I asked them the questions that
we’re talking about right now and her
answer was yep you’re right on Social
Security retirement benefits no effect
no security disability no effect on
supplemental security Insurance here was
the best advice I’ve gotten from anybody
in a long time she said Ryan do not try
to give advice on SSI there’s so many
variables between every single person
out there if you line up 100 different
people there’s going to be 100 different
situations it all depends on this and
that there’s no way that you could give
a blanket statement on here’s the amount
that you’re going to get you’re making
50 VA this is what you’re going to get
there’s no way you can possibly do that
and I completely understand so her
suggestion to everybody on the other end
of this camera is call your local Social
Security Administration make an
appointment see them face to face she
even said things get very muddled over
the phone you want to be sitting across
the desk from somebody with a notepad
and all your information so while I had
a bunch of different web pages pulled up
the more I talked to her I started
deleting those pages and I came up with
this one right here it’s the social
security handbook I’m going to leave a
link to all these pages in the
description below but this one right
here if you look it’s chapter 21 the
supplemental security income the social
security handbook it’s just like the VA
they’re almost just joined at the hip
you’ve got a VA handbook you’ve got a
social security handbook and this is it
and if you look it starts at chapter 21
and it goes into paragraphs 2100 down to
2197
but if you look throughout here it says
resources
income this is the big one how does
income affect SSI benefits how does
income Define
How is income defined for SSI purposes
How is income counted
how or when is income counted so on and
so on and so on I could spend probably a
year going through each one of these but
these are the questions that you’ll want
to go through
the ones that you have in your head jot
them down take those to your Social
Security Administration to a local
representative sit down and discuss
these with them hey can I make this much
money if so how’s it going to affect
this or how much money can I get from
SSI based on the fact that I only make
this much money
2104 when our SSI benefits paid 2105 how
are SSI benefits financed
I believe they’re financed by the
treasury Department I’m not even looking
that up but I think that’s the answer
2110 SSI definitions I bet that one’s a
handy one let’s just pop it open and see
what happens
there you go who is eligible
who’s an eligible spouse eligible
ineligible spouse essential person who
is a child who is a sponsor so on and so
on I can bet 99 of the questions if not
99.9 are right here under the
supplemental security income social
security handbook
so let’s recap Social Security
retirement benefits no effect on each
other with VA and social security
security disability insurance no effect
between VA and Ed
supplemental security Insurance via
disability
yep possibly don’t know how much don’t
know how little
but I’ve given you the information to
get the answers let me reiterate the
Social Security Administration is set up
just like the VA they’ve got
Representatives just like a vso they’ve
got Social Security representatives in
your local offices go talk to them
they’re free no charge
in the meantime if you think you’re
ready for an increase or you’ve got some
secondary conditions that you’re looking
at filing please check out my website
maxva disability.com
check out my five step process how to
start how to get organized how to file a
claim how to prepare for the CNP and how
to take the CNP I’m here to help so I am
starting to think about it much like the
people on the other than this camera it
is going to come into play at some point
but for me unless I need SSI it’s not
going to matter if you’re still watching
this video right now I’ve got to ask a
question please comment away I’ve got
two thumbnails going I’ve got one with
the blue background and one with the
Special Operations helicopter on it

I can’t read Because you wrote it at two
o’clock in the morning who knows what is
going on uh it’s not understandable try
