Cold Moulding Planking Layer 1 | Temptress 1/4 Scale Boat Build Part 19

In this video we begin planking the bottom of the Temptress model. I talk about the process of cold moulding, why it is done and the benefits that it gives to a modern wooden boat construction.

Then I begin installing the first layer of planking. We look at how to orient planks, trim them in to fit the hull shape and we also look at how to spile a plank to meet tightly with the next one.

We look at spiling planks with a custom tool, trimming them by eye and my quick method that I use for marking and trimming their edges.

In the next video we will begin applying placing layer two and we will then also look at the vacuum bagging process to see how it can greatly benefit this way of building modern wooden boats.

– About the Project –
In this series I am building a 6′ model version of our new boat design Temptress. The reason for building the boat in that size is so that I can show the process, exactly the same as it will be for the full size boat with everything scaled down. It will offer a full tutorial on how to build the boat, be a test run for myself and also give me a demo model that I can take to boat shows.
